The #2 Reason for Moving - Working from Home
In the last blog we explored the biggest motivator for families needing to move home – education. The second most prevalent reason is that working from home is becoming more and more accepted and encouraged, meaning that working families no longer need to be so close to the office and can avoid the daily commute.
Over the last ten years many of our clients have told us that their job allows them to be flexible in terms of where they can live and that they can be based at home on some working days - particularly on a Friday.
More and more clients are opting for a home office on a more regular basis providing there is a very good internet and broadband connection. International meetings are now routinely conducted via video or tele conferencing as well as by skype, rather than in person, allowing much greater flexibility as to your place of work. Similarly, clients have said that they communicate by e-mail to their colleagues who sit next to or close to them in an office situation - so why not communicate with then when based at home!
Whilst the choice to have a study or office has always been high on buyer’s requirements, people work remotely from almost anywhere nowadays so having a dedicated study is no longer a prerequisite for some.
Excellent transport links combined with a good road and rail infrastructure continues to play an important role on the choice of areas people choose to live, favouring towns with fast train and motorway connectivity to the capital.
Working on the train is now the norm and many rail companies have installed Wi-Fi on their main lines. Talking on a hands-free mobile phone whist driving or travelling is also now recognised as being acceptable.
