Where to place your Christmas tree

You might be surprised as to the types of questions we get asked by our clients when viewing or buying their next home.

There are plenty of ‘standard’ questions that are frequently asked by prospective buyers, for example: “What are the neighbours like?”, “Where would the BBQ go?” However, the one ‘surprising’ question that always pops up in conversation is ‘Where would I place the Christmas tree?’. Not a strange question to ask I guess, but quite surprising when the viewing is done during summer months and clients are all dressed in shorts and polos!

As one client respectively pointed out, the house move is as much for the children as it is for the rest of the family. Finding the perfect spot for the Christmas tree is a real consideration as the tree plays an important role in family life during the festive season.

It’s certainly interesting how we dream of a cosy home in winter, dressed in festive decorations and most of all having that perfect corner for the Christmas tree is on top of the must-have-list!

Finding the perfect spot

Whether you plan on putting your Christmas tree in your grand entrance hall, family room, dining area or driveway, or perhaps you are simply looking for a spot to place a second tree, here are a few things to consider:

  • Lighting: You want your tree to be seen but not block the natural light in your home. Make sure it doesn’t block your sunlight!

  • Pathway: Depending on the layout of your space, try to avoid placing the tree close to natural traffic ways. You don’t want your children or visitors knocking decorations off the tree. Near a blank wall will grab everyone’s attention!

  • Views: Find a spot where you can see the tree from multiple views and rooms. This way you get to admire your beautiful decorations even more.

  • Pair it up: Having a tree next to a mantel or chair will create a natural focal point for your room.

The real meaning of Christmas

December is certainly the time and month that comes with all the joys of Christmas, bringing families together and of course is full of festivities. But what is the real meaning of Christmas? Is it the gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, turkey dinners with family and friends, snow in the garden, stockings hanging in the living room, and shouts of "Merry Christmas" to those who pass us in the streets? Or is it the joy and peace it brings to your life.

I guess for some people it is all about the excitement of planning, having the vision of the size of tree and where best to position the Christmas tree when the time comes!

Seasons Greetings!
